BROADCAST
My broadcast experience began in radio working for
KUCB, the student run station at the University of
Colorado, Boulder in 1988. In 1998 I stepped into the
Production Manager. Eventually I switched majors to
Broadcast Production & Management and began work
with television programs, directing programs for the
university cable access channel including things like
lectures and women's basketball games.
Out of college I took an entry level job at KGAN (CBS)
in Cedar Rapids, then owned by Guy Gannett. I worked
myself up from pushing a camera and directing; to 3-D
animation and early non-linear edition. Eventually I
landed in the marketing and promotion department.
My promotional spots caught the attention of a national
consulting firm in Marion, Iowa which led to a phone
call
from Hearst to work at their Dayton station WDTN, which
at that time was ABC.
From WDTN I changed gears and moved back to Iowa
to work as a writer and producer for ME&V, then
a startup
ad agency. While there we grew from 11 to 50+ people
and
eventually I spearheaded their Interactive Division
and
before I left was overseeing numerous department as
the
assistant creative directly.
Currently I am back in broadcasting as the Marketing
Manager at KWWL, the NBC affiliate in Waterloo, Iowa.
